Thank God it’s…

“hiihtolomat”, or the skiing holidays ;-) If you haven’t yet planned anything for Thursday 6.3. at 19.00, please drop by at Bastian’s place (Puulinnankatu 5 C 23) to spend some time together and watch a movie among friends. The film is called “Mother of Mine” (“Äideistä parhain”), and it has English subtitles. It tells the story of a Finnish boy being evacuated to Sweden in World War II. Here you can watch a trailer. Bring a small snack, a blanket and a good mood, of course! See you…

Music in Worship and Life

The message of the English Service on 10.2.2008 dealt with the topic of music. There are many forms of music in worship and in Christian life, perhaps ranging from classical music and traditional hymns to gospel, jazz, pop, hiphop, rock, rap and even heavy metal. The Bible doesn’t explicitly forbid a certain form of music. But: the Word of God is concerned with the attitude of Christian believers when using music in worship and life.

Scripture is very clear: Music, as everything else in worship and life, has to be used for the glory of God, and with grace in the heart: “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31) and “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” (Colossians 3:16).

The message can be downloaded as a ppt-file, and, with more scripture references, as a pdf-file.
